Defining our Focus
The Foundation selected Gender-Based Violence as its strategic focus for funding. Gender-Based Violence is an epidemic area of violence with compounding impact on families. This multi-generational harm caused by GBV impacts all of us. Our mission is to make a lasting difference!
The Aurora Foundation has the mandate to serve victims of crime and those who experience victimization. Throughout our materials, The Aurora Foundation uses the term victim and survivor interchangeably, and does not require a homicide in order for an organization to receive funding. Our goal is to reduce the level of victimization in Manitoba, especially for racialized peoples
The amount of violence and crime in Manitoba is staggering. The Aurora Foundation has limited resources at this time, and while the foundation raises additional resources, the foundation has focus funding toward gender-based violence so to achieve a greater impact. As we increase our resources, we intend to select additional areas of focus. The Aurora Foundation views gender-based violence as a critical starting point.
Philanthropy is predominantly focused in Winnipeg in Manitoba yet the greatest needs are frequently outside of Winnipeg. The cost of delivering critical services in rural and remote areas are exceptionally higher. As a result, there is an absence of supports and services across Manitoba. This has a profound impact on all Manitobans. The Aurora Foundation, for this reason, is focusing its funding to deliver services in rural and remote areas.
